Overview

Neo Gothic, also known as Gothic Revival, is an architectural movement that emerged in the 19th century, characterized by the revival of medieval Gothic architecture. The movement, which originated in England, sought to complement or supersede the neoclassical styles prevalent at the time. With its distinctive features, including decorative patterns, finials, lancet windows, and hood moulds, Neo Gothic became the pre-eminent architectural style in the Western world by the mid-19th century. Influenced by [[augustus-welby-pugin|Augustus Welby Pugin]] and [[john-ruskin|John Ruskin]], the movement had roots in philosophical movements associated with [[catholicism|Catholicism]] and a re-awakening of high church or [[anglo-catholicism|Anglo-Catholic]] belief.
