National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) is a congressionally chartered nonprofit organization that provides independent, objective advice to the nation on matters of science, engineering, and medicine. Operating under a charter signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, NASEM comprises three distinct academies: the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). These academies work collaboratively to address complex challenges, inform public policy, and advance scientific understanding for the benefit of society.
