Overview

Casting is a process where a liquid material is poured into a mold to create a solidified part, often used for making complex shapes that are difficult or uneconomical to produce by other methods. With a history dating back to 3200 BC, casting has been used to create a wide range of products, from heavy equipment like [[machine-tool|machine tool beds]] and [[ships-propeller|ship's propellers]] to intricate designs like the copper frog, one of the oldest surviving castings. The process involves pouring a liquid material, such as [[metal|metal]] or [[epoxy|epoxy]], into a mold and allowing it to solidify, after which the solidified part is ejected or broken out of the mold.
